ER Doctor Named Resident Physician of the Year
Dr. Austin Kosier, MD is an emergency medicine physician who utilizes multiple platforms, in addition to working in the emergency room, to apply his passion for serving and helping others. As a result, Dr. Kosier has been awarded resident physician of the year by one of the hospitals in which he rotates.
“It has always been my goal to restore individuals to a healthy life after an acute event, and to not let a disease or condition negatively impact someone’s ability to function independently,” Dr. Kosier states. Abiding by his purpose, Austin Kosier pursued a career in emergency medicine where he cares for patients who are in critical condition or require urgent treatment. He routinely manages traumas, cardiac arrests, strokes, and much more.
“But why stop there?” Dr. Kosier also reports. “I felt I had a duty to pay it forward to others in addition to my work as an ER doctor. There is also a world of future healthcare workers navigating their way through the medical education system who I hoped to help.” In order to assist the medical community in achieving their goals, Austin Kosier began to identify various platforms in which he could educate and mentor students and trainees.
During medical school, Dr. Kosier served as a tutor and mentor for many types of healthcare students and learners. He was also co-president of student-to-student, a program that guides underserved individuals who aspire to pursue a career in medicine. As one of the chief residents of the emergency medicine residency program, Dr. Kosier routinely leads lectures to educate others, recruits and interviews medical students applying for emergency medicine residency, publishes journal articles, and creates written and audio content for medical education purposes.
“At the end of the day the patients and their care come first, and ensuring their medical experience is a positive one is a top priority of mine,” Dr. Kosier states. “We are a team of healthcare personnel in the ER, and we each have an equal role in delivering high quality care to patients no matter our title.”
Austin Kosier has been recognized for his team-player approach when caring for patients, utilizing everyone’s skill set and expertise in order to execute the best treatment plan. His compassionate bedside manner along with his empathy have also been acknowledged through patient satisfaction reports and by other healthcare colleagues.
Dr. Kosier continues to excel as an emergency room physician, medical educator, and mentor in order to best serve the community and help others succeed.
